There are 450 million people in Africa who do not have access to a safe clean supply of water. This does not have to be.

Do you want to make a difference?

Young people from all over the world are realizing they can make a real difference by forming small groups to provide clean water to an African community.

People from Canada, Australia, USA, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway and Kenya are mobilizing others to support the development of new water points.

You can establish your own group to provide a new water point or become a Water Activist for the African Water Bank. It does not take much to provide a community in Kenya or Zambia with clean water.

We will support you by providing training, power-point presentations, notes, badges, handouts and ideas about how to get others involved so that you can make presentations to your class or school or friends. Contact us to become a Water Activist. There are thousands of water challenges that need support. You can select one and provide a community with a safe water point. You can make a difference. Choose your own water challenge – water for a school, for a community or for a district – or choose a project – a borehole and hand-pump, a windmill, a rainwater collection system or protection for a spring or dam. All of these projects need the support of a Water Activist. Make a difference by taking the lead in providing clean water to a school, community or district in Africa.

We have some ideas about how you can support an African community to get a safe reliable source of water (see boxes below). We also welcome your ideas so they can be shared with other Water Activists.

The securing of an accessible, safe, reliable source of water can change the health, economic and social outlook for a community overnight. Clean water is the key cornerstone for development – without it development is impossible.

The provision of clean water will save more lives than any other intervention. More people in Africa – and they are mainly children – die each year from diarrheal diseases – most commonly caused by contaminated water – than from malaria and HIV/AIDS combined.

An investment in clean water is the most effective investment in development you can make. Each single dollar invested in clean water returns between ten and eleven dollars in community benefits within one year.
